New Delhi, May 26: The Congress on Friday stepped up its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of inauguration of the new parliament building by saying that ‘one man’s ego’s, has denied President of her right.

“The desire for self-promotion has denied the first tribal woman President of her right to inaugurate the new parliament building. This is an insult and affront to the office of President,” said Mallikarjuna Kharge, AICC President.

Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the new parliament building on May 28 and as many as 21 Opposition parties have decided to boycott the event citing Constitutional Impropriety.

Kharge said the parliament is the temple of democracy and office of the President is the first part of parliament. “The arrogance of your government has destroyed the parliamentary system,” Kharge added.

The Congress alleged that the interests of the SCs, STs and Adivasis are not safe under the Modi-led BJP government.

Meanwhile, Shivaji Rao Moghe, President of All India Adivasi Congress said that the BJP government headed by Modi did not invite the then President Ramnath Kovind for the foundation stone laying ceremony in December 2020.

“The decision of the BJP government not to invite President Murmu shows the mindset and mentality of the government,” Moghe added.

On his part Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted saying, “One man’s ego and desire to promote self has denied the privilege and right of the President to inaugurate the new parliament building.”
