Varanasi, May 22: Moti and Jaya – the two street dogs of the holy city of Kashi – are all set to fly abroad.

While Moti will fly to Milan, Italy, Jaya is scheduled to fly to Amsterdam, after they were adopted by two foreign nationals three months ago.

Vera Lazzaretti, an Italian woman, rescued Moti from Assi Ghat after she saw the attack by stray dogs. Jaya was rescued by Merel Bontelbal, a lady from The Netherlands at Munshighat area.

Animotel Care Trust (ACT), a NGO working for animal care, in Varanasi, made all the paper work for these two female dogs including the passport with the tag “true companion” – as required by the Passport rules.

ACT President Indraneel Basu said the vaccination and the blood tests of both the dogs have been completed.

“We are awaiting other medical reports to make sure that these mongrels are physically and mentally fit to fly abroad, especially the long haul in the flight,” he said.

Meanwhile, Varanasi municipal corporation authorities are making formal arrangements to send off the two dogs to their new abode.

“We were watching these two dogs everyday in this or that ghat. We used to feed them. Now, we will not see them anymore, once and for all,” said Pandit Jay Govind Shastry, with a tone of sadness.
