Kodava lady elected to Australian parliament

Melbourne, May 12: An Indian lady of Kodagu origin has been elected to Australian parliament.

Kaliyanda Charishma, a Kodava lady from Virajpet taluk, was elected to Australian parliament from Liverpool constituency.

A native of Napoklu in Kodagu district, Charishma Madappa took oath on Thursday by wearing her traditional Kodava saree in Kodava style.

Charishma Madappa’s relatives and friends offered special pooja to Goddess Cauvery and Lord Igguthappa and distributed sweets to the villagers to celebrate Charishma’s achievements.
