Bengaluru, Apr.21: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday accepted the nomination of Congress state president D.K. Shivkumar from Kanakapura assembly constituency. The seven-time MLA from Kanakapura filed his nomination papers on Monday.

With the Congress leader facing multiple investigations from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax department, as a backup plan his brother D.K. Suresh had filed nomination papers from the same constituency.

In connection with the money laundering and tax evasion cases, Shivakumar has been questioned by the central agencies.

Shivakumar has won thrice from Kanakapura, a stronghold of Vokkaliga community, since 2008. He is set to face BJP’s former minister R. Ashoka. He is said to be the close aide of B.S. Yediyurappa.

Since 1989 the Congress have been winning the seat expect between 2004-2008.

Meanwhile, while talking to the media he refuted all allegations against him and accused BJP of political vendetta.

KPCC president Shivakumar said that all his papers are transparent. “All my papers are transparent, whatever I have filled to the election commission, Income Tax, ED, Lokayukta and CBI. They are trying to interpret it in a different format. They want to create problems for me and they are harassing me. Notices have been given to me by the income tax department. I don’t want to talk about law/court matters. I am ready to face whatever they give,” said Shivakumar.

“I believe in people’s court, they (BJP) are trying to use various agencies. I am very cautious on every move, I am also a political animal,” said DKS.

Strengthening the campaigning ahead of the polls, Union Minister Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to Karnataka. He will take out a roadshow in Devanahalli and will meet up with the senior party leaders.
