Bengaluru, April 15: The much-needed and much-awaited Arbitration Centre of Company Secretaries will open its Bengaluru Chapter in cit shortly. This was announced in the press conference by Manish Gupta, President of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Manish Gupta said in South India the proposed Bangalore Chapter of the Arbitration Centre is going to be the first one, though there is a proposal to open one more in Hyderabad. “Bangalore Chapter is opening shortly,” he added.

He quoted the statement of the Chief Justice of India Justice D. Y. Chandrachud who has advocated the need for more such arbitration centres as an alternative institutionalized mechanism to resolve and redress disputes pertaining to the companies. “The proposed Arbitration Centre in Bengaluru will function from the office of the ICSI,” Manish Gupta said.

Manish Gupta said that the Company Secretary course has been considered equivalent to the PG Courses by the University Grants Commission (UGC). “If any student wants to go in for Doctorate – PhD – he or she can straightaway go to Doctorate and not do PG again because the Company Secretary Course has been declared equivalent to PG recently by the UGC,” he explained.

He also that the Company Secretary Course is not only equivalent to PG but is on par with the United Kingdom’s International Skill Course, according to the UGC.

According to Manish Gupta, the thrust and focus of the ICSI is for “digitization revolution” with the outcome of the webinars, seminars and workshops being made available almost “on real time basis” to the students.

ICSI has planned to hold a week-long “Capital Market Week” on the theme “Learning from G20, Stability, Competitiveness and moving towards Comprehensive Market Capital” from April 22 to 29. During this week, there is going to be seminar, workshops and webinars. It will be attended by Regulators, Market Experts and Depositors. The discussion will centre around capital investment and educational qualifications.

The ICSI is also providing funds to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) to identify the daughters of martyred soldiers for their education under the “Shaheed Ki Beti” scheme as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility.
