Kadur, April 10: “I need both vote and note. I will come to you shortly. Bless me.”
This is going to be the campaign theme of Y. S. V. Datta, who has decided to contest the May 10 Assembly elections as Independent Candidate.
Thousands of Datta’s supporters who took part in the meeting at Lakshminarayana Kalyana Mantap at Kadur on Sunday urged him to contest as Independent candidate.
“You deserve the best. The Congress has betrayed you. It is the question of your self-respect. Contest as Independent. We will ensure your victory,” thousands of admirers told Datta in chorus.
“Self – Respect” is to be the trump card of Datta in the campaign for the elections.

It may be recalled that Datta – whose association with Janata Pariwar since 1977 – was called the “manasa putra” of former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda.
He had served as MLC for one term and had been elected as MLA from Kadur. However, with the JDS denying ticket to Datta, he quit JDS and joined Congress.
But to his utter shock, the Congress too denied him the ticket. “We had not promised ticket to Datta Meshtru,” KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar has said.
Datta decided to seek the opinion of his supporters to decide the future Course of action on Sunday.
“My supporters and admirers wants me to contest as Independent. I will come to you to seek both votes and notes,” Datta told the huge gathering.
