Bengaluru, April 6: Cine actor Sudeep’s stance that “he will campaign only for those candidates suggested by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai” is absurd and meaningless.
This is not going to help the BJP in any substantial manner.
Sudeep’s statement that Bommai has helped him and stood by him at times of crisis is understandable and quite fair.
His stance that he will not join the party is also acceptable.

However, to say that he will campaign in those constituencies suggested by Bommai will do more harm to the BJP than benefit. In fact, this is not good for Bommai also, going by the import of Sudeep’s statement.
For instance, Sudeep goes to one constituency and campaigns for a particular candidate as suggested by Bommai. Then what about the other candidates? Is Bommai not interested in other candidates? How can the Chief Minister be discriminatory in his approach?
Such questions will arise and haunt not Sudeep but Bommai.

What will Sudeep tell the public, the media and the Opposition about the performance of the government? Can he sidestep this issue?
What will Sudeep say about BJP’s ideology, principles and programmes? Does he agree with the BJP? Does he accept Modi’s leadership?
Both Sudeep and Bommai will have to answer such embarrassing questions in the next coming days.
Political acumen is the pre-requisite to undertake any political moves. It is conspicuous by it’s absence in state leadership.
