Bengaluru, April 5: Former Chief Minister and JDS President H. D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday chided the BJP for ‘depending upon a cine actor’ to conduct the election campaign.
“I don’t want to comment on Sudeep but I pity the BJP which has to depend upon a cine actor to campaign. Then what about the performance of the government and seeking mandate on the basis of performance,” Kumaraswamy asked, while speaking to media.
He said JDS supremo H. D. Deve Gowda and himself are the star campaigners for his party besides the “Pancharatna” programme. “My party’s past performance in the government and the present Pancharatna programme will turn out to become star campaigners. There is no need for us to depend on cine actors,” Kumaraswamy said, without referring to Kiccha Sudeep who has expressed his solidarity with the BJP.
The JDS President was of the view that the star value, by itself, will not translate into votes and it remains to be seen as to how the development will work.
“Cine stars have curiosity value. People come to the public meetings due to curiosity and perhaps due to fan following. But that does not mean the entire crowd will translate into votes. Star Value is just Star Value. At best it can be curiosity value. That’s all,” the former Chief Minister explained.
Kumaraswamy recalled that earlier too the BJP had roped in scores of TV serial actors and cine stars but nothing substantial worked out for the saffron party.
“The fact of the matter is that the BJP has nothing to show case as its performance in the government. The corruption issue is dominating the political scene. Infighting and internal differences within the party are also threatening its electoral prospects. As a last resort, the BJP has brought in Sudeep, whose star value is high. But as I said earlier, star value will remain as star value and will not translate into votes,” Kumaraswamy explained.
