Kundapura, April 3: Kundapura BJP MLA Haladi Srinivasa Shetty has announced that he will not contest the forthcoming assembly elections.
“This is my own and personal decision not to contest the elections,” Srinivasa Shetty has said, in a one-page press release issued here on Monday.
He said he has been winning from Kundapura constituency for five consecutive terms out of which he had contested and won as Independent. “I have the satisfaction of having listened to the woes and problems of all section of society and tried to mitigate their problems. I remain indebted to the voters for enabling my victory in five elections,” Srinivasa Shetty said, in his press release.
Stating that he has always fought for the social justice of the weaker and down-trodden section of society, Srinivasa Shetty claimed that he received support from the upper castes too in his fight for social justice. “I have provided justice to all section of society during my term. I have never discriminated against anybody. I am happy to that extent,” he said.
According to Srinivasa Shetty, he has worked to his full satisfaction in all the elections – be it Lok Sabha, or Assembly or Gram Panchayat – during his five terms as MLA to the best of his ability. “I have received support, love and affection from all and every section of society during my term as MLA. I thank the people for showering their love and affection on me,” he added.
He assereted that he has undertaken a number of developmental activities in the constituency “as per the needs of the people” and he has received support and solidarity with the district and taluk administration. “I remain grateful to all and everybody who have guided me in carrying out the developmental activities,” Srinivasa Shetty added.
The out-going MLA, however, did not indicate about his future plans in his press release. ‘I appeal to the people to continue to support the BJP candidate – whoever is chosen by the party – in the coming elections and ensure the victory of the BJP.
