Mysore, March 31: Setting at rest the speculation that was raised about the port of call of B.Y. Vijayendra, former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa on Friday declared that his son will contest from Shikaripura.

“I don’t know how this news of Vijayendra contesting from Varuna came up in such a big way. I never said that he will contest from Varuna,” Yediyurappa said, while speaking to reporters here.

Yediyurappa clarified that he has come to Mysore for a totally different purpose and has nothing to do with Varuna constituency.

The former chief minister said he will prevail upon birh Vijayendra as well as the high command that he (Vijayendra) should contest from Shikaripura.

When his attention was drawn towards Vijayendra’s statement that the high command will decide his constituency, Yediyurappa said what he has said is correct.

“The high command will decide the seat for Vijayendra but it is not going to be Varuna. It has to be Shikaripura. I will prevail upon the high command as well as Vijayendra on this issue,” Yediyurappa added.

It may be recalled that rumours were afloat and speculation was rife that Vijayendra would take on Congress leader Siddaramaiah at Varuna.

The entire day media was agog with news analysis quoting Yediyurappa. However, he denied of having told anything to that effect.

“I only said the BJP will field a very strong candidate in Varuna. That doesn’t mean it is going to be Vijayendra. It is now clear that he will contest from Shikaripura,” Yediyurappa asserted.
