Karnataka’s youngest woman mayor is in Ballari

Ballari, March 30: D. Triveni, 23 years, became the first youngest woman mayor of Karnataka after she was elected to the post in Ballari.

Triveni, is a Congress councilor from ward 4 in Ballari Municipal Corporation.

Daughter of former mayor Savitha Bhaye, Triveni got 44 votes while her BJP rival got 13 votes.

Triveni is a para-medical graduate. She had developed keen interest in the development, hygiene and overall atmosphere of Ballari city right from her younger days as the student in high school.

The government had reserved the Mayoral posts to Scheduled Caste women category.

B. Janak of the Congress was elected as Deputy Mayor unopposed. BJP did not field its candidate for the post of Deputy Mayor.

Triveni told media after her election as Mayor that she will work for the overall development of Ballari city in order to make it a “model city”

“I will take everyone into confidence in performing my duties. Good roads, people-friendly pavements, playground and parks are my priority besides providing drinking water,” Triveni said.
