Belagavi, March 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sarma on Friday sought to push Hindutva agenda in the run up to the elections by declaring that all Madrasas should be closed and instead professional colleges must be started.
Addressing a huge rally at Belagavi, Sarma – who had emerged as champion of Hindutva – said his government in Assam has decided to shut all Madrasas. “Already; 600 madrasas have been shut in Assam. We will continue this drive,” Sarma said, amidst a loud applause from the audience.

Sarma inaugurated an exhibition titled “Shivacharithra” the life and contribution of Chhatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj.
“Shivaji effectively stopped the advancement of Moghuls from North to South. Moghuls could not cross the Vindhyas, thanks to Shivaji. Unfortunately, today’s Muslims relate themselves to yesterday’s Moghuls. This is wrong,” Sarma added.
Turning his guns against Congress, Sarma said the country’s Grand Old Party (GoP) is doing exactly doing what Moghuls did – destroy the Sanatana Hindu Dharma.
“On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is restoring Hindu places of worship such as Ayodhya, Kashi and Maha Kaal at Ujjain. This is the beginning of cultural revolution and spiritual renaissance,” Sarma explained.

Taking on the historians, the Assam chief minister said the historians glorified the Moghul rule but never highlighted the life and achievements of Shivaji Maharaj.
“Shivaji, Swami Vivekanand and Guru Gobind Singh are our heroes. Congress glorified Babri Masjid. We should emphasize on Sanatana Hindu Dharma,” Sarma said.
