Bangalore, March 11: The BJP has stoked a controversy by erecting huge huge welcome arch in the name of Uri Gowda and Dodda Nanje Gowda at the entrance of Mandya town.
This has angered the netizens and hundreds of social media activists. BJP claims that Uri Gowda and Dodda Nanje Gowda are the two persons who ‘killed Tipu Sultan’ to death, contrary to the popular belief that he was killed due to gunshot wounds by the British.
Netizens are of the view that it is a deliberate attempt on the part of the BJP to give legitimacy to the theory that Tipu was killed by these two Vokkaliga people – Uri Gowda and Dodda Nanje Gowda.
Historians, however, say that there are no records to prove that Tipu Sultan was killed by the two Gowdas.
This, rather, clever attempt to bring up the names of Uri Gowda and Dodda Nanje Gowda as killers of Tipu Sultan fits in the BJP’s poll narrative where the saffron party is all eager to make Hindu-Muslim issue and also placate the powerful Vokkaliga community.
The BJP is determined to make a major breakthrough in the Vokkaliga belt. This attempt, BJP hopes, will bring electoral dividends.
