New Delhi, Mar 10: Senior leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K Kavitha is holding a hunger strike demanding to introduce the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.
She has sat on a Dharna since morning at Jantar Mantar New Delhi. As many as 12 political parties have supported her for the day-long protest. She had invited 18 parties to join her, but only a dozen of parties have extended their support.
Speaking on the issue Kavitha said that the BJP had promised to implement the legislation in the run-up to the 2014 and 2019 general elections, but did not keep the word despite coming to power with a clear majority.

“Women’s Reservation bill is important and we need to bring it soon. I promise all women this protest will not stop until the bill is introduced,” Kavitha said.
“It is important to bring this bill to give equal opportunity to women in politics,” said veteran CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury.
The legislation proposes a Constitutional amendment to reserve 1/3 of the seats in Lok Sabha and Assemblies.
The BRS leader’s hunger strike comes a day before her questioning by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam.
