Bengaluru, March 5: After flyover at Sankey lake, now it is ‘Tourist Plaza’ is what BBMP has planned. The stake holders, that is the people living around Sankey lake has no clue as to what this Tourist Plaza is all about.
“Wr don’t know what the BBMP means by Tourist Plaza but all that we know is that it is anything but environment-friendly,” Preethi, Citizens for Sankey, told The Newz Peg.

The BBMP, in fact, has announced that Tourist Plaza will be developed in three lakes – Sankey lake, Ulsoor lake and Lalbagh lake. It has earmarked Rs 108 crores in all for this project.
Preerhi said the residents of Sadashivanagar, Vyalikaval and Malleshwaram are opposed to this Tourist Plaza as it puts pressure on the already fragile ecology of the area.

“Moreover, the roads cannot take the pressure of thousands of people coming to this proposed Tourist Plaza. The entire area gets disturbed. We have begun a campaign against this illogical move of the BBMP which has made an unilateral announcement without discussing with the people,” Preethi explained.
The Citizens for Sankey plans to organise and mobilize the people around Ulsoor lake also in order to stop this Tourist Plaza.

“It looks like that this is an entertainment project at the cost of ecology, environment, peace and tranquility of the area. We will oppose this nonsensical project tooth and nail,” Preethi added.

The BBMP budget, in which this Tourist Plaza has been mentioned, stated that these plazas will have fountains, play areas food courts and open areas for rest and recuperation.
“These facilities will eventually kill the lake once and for all,” Preethi said.
