Bengaluru, March 1: BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath has put on hold the proposed Sankey Tank flyover project.
“The BBMP Commissioner directed the DCF not to go ahead with the project till the BMLTA gives its opinion. We are happy by this decision of the BBMP, Preethi, one of the activist associated with movement said.

The DCF is the Officer in-charge to decide about the cutting of trees.
Preethi said the BBMP Commissioner also agreed that road widening was not the eternal solution to the problem of traffic. “He agreed with our view that rapid mass transport system was the only solution,” Preethi added.

With this decision of the BBMP to put on hold the Sankey tank flyover project, the residents of Vyalikaval, Malleshwaram and Sadashivanagar can heave a sigh of relief.
Preethi said their association had pressure on the BBMP from many sides and ultimately enabled the BBMP to arrive at this decision.

According to Preethi, their association submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to the BBMP and prevailed upon the Commissioner to consider the EIA report.
