Bengaluru, March 1: It’s game of wit being played by both the Congress and BJP.
Congress has sought to counter BJP’s onslaught on the Grand Old Party (GoP) by showing sympathy towards Lingayath strongman B. S. Yediyurappa.
KPCC President D. K. Shiva Kumar demanded an explanation from the BJP as to why Yediyurappa was removed from the post of Chief Minister two years ago.
“BJP is showing a mere lip sympathy towards Yediyurappa. I demand a last word from the BJP about the exit of BSY from the post of Chief Minister,” Shiva Kumar added.
Siddaramaiah, on his part, went further. He said the BJP has punctured Yediyurappa beyond repair.
“BJP made Yediyurappa cry in public. I still remember the way Yediyurappa cried after he was asked to resign,” Siddaramaiah added.
Shiva Kumar lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dubbing Congress as anti-Lingayath.
“Does Modi know that Indira Gandhi invited Veerendra Patil to rejoin the Congress and made him the Petroleum Minister? Does Modi know that Sonia Gandhi visited S. Nijalingappa’s residence? Does Modi know that Nijalingappa’s son-in-law Rajashekharan was made Union Minister? BJP’s rather devious attempt to further consolidate Lingayath community will not work this time as it has insulted BSY,” Shiva Kumar explained
Shiva Kumar asserted that the Lingayaths will tilt towards the Congress this time “in order to punish BJP” for “using and throwing Yediyurappa to dustbin.
