Raipur, February 27: The three-day 85th plenary session of the Congress party started off on Sunday with the Grand Old Party (GoP) feeling the need for unity, solidarity and discipline in order to defeat the “divisive forces” represented by the BJP and RSS.
“India awaits a reinvigorated Congress. We must work with discipline, remain united. This is a historic necessity and the need of the hour,” the resolution passed on the opening day, stated.
The party emphasised for unity and discipline especially in the poll-bound states of Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
“The outcome of the election in these three states would set the tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” the resolution stated.
The GoP reiterated that it is open for electoral alliance with like-minded parties on the basis of a Common Minimum Programme.
The resolution also stated that the Congress will always fight to protect the political values against the BJP’s authoritarian, communal and crony capitalist onslaught. For this, we are prepared to work with like-minded parties on the basis of Common, Constructive and Progressive programme in order to protect the Constitution in letter and spirit,” the resolution stated.
The GoP has identified three main challenges posed by the BJP – RSS combine such as growing economic inequality, intensifying social polarization and deepening political dictatorship.
In his Presidential speech, party President Mallikarjuna Kharge said, “Our conduct at the national level will have an impact on crores of party colleagues at every level and hence we need highest standards of unity and discipline”
