Panaji, February 25: The Centre on Friday decided to set up the office of Mahadayi Authority at Panaji.
Named as ‘Prawah’, the office will expedite the work on Mahadayi project. The Centre gave its approval to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) about a month ago.
Karnataka Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol said the state will commence its work at the earliest after the Mahadayi Water Authority office starts functioning.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on his part, said the coming up of the Mahadayi Authority in Panaji will enable his state to monitor the work.

“While we will keep a vigil on the on-going work, I am confident that the Centre will not do any injustice to Goa. I hope that there will be no diversion of extra water to Karnataka,” Sawant added.
The proposed Mahadayi Water Authority will have all the stake holders states as members and also a few technical and legal representatives from the Centre.
