Bengaluru, February 22: Appearance and Disappearance is an act the cine actors are expert at. It looks like that noted Kannada cine actor Ananthnag did something like that today.
Media was all agog with rumours that Ananthnag would join BJP at 4.30 PM in state office, Malleshwaram. To be fair to both Ananthnag and BJP, no official information had been sent out about Ananthnag joining the BJP.
Media personnel, especially the electronic media, was in full strength. However, Ananthnag did not turn up even at 5.30 PM.
When a reporter from leading channel called the actor’s residence, the reply was, “What? Is this true? Is he (Ananthnag) really joining BJP” Now, it was the turn of the scribes to be shocked.
BJP media cell, on its part, washed off its hands by saying that “we had not told that Ananthnag would join the party”
But it is also true that some middle level functionaries had briefed the TV reporters “Off – the – Record” that Ananthnag was joining the party at 4.30 PM.
The Newz Peg has learnt from both the BJP as well from the tinsel world that the “anti-BJP forces” mounted pressure on Ananthnag “not to lend his credibility” to the BJP. How far this is true remains to be seen.
This uncertainty has arisen because a top BJP functionary told The Newz Peg on Wednesday late evening that Ananthnag will, indeed, join his party in a day or two.
Will he or won’t he? This is a million-dollar question only Ananthnag has to answer.
