New Delhi, Feb 20: After Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s remarks on forming an alliance against BJP led NDA in the upcoming Loksabha elections, Congress has said that the opposition cannot be united without COngress’s active contribution.

Congress was taunting Mamatha Banerjee led Trinamool Congress for not being on the same page. On Saturday, Nitish Kumar had said that the BJP will not even get 100 seats if the opposition form alliance and fight together and he has been waiting for a signal from the Congress for the same.

Welcoming his comments, AICC General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that in the upcoming Congress plenary session the party will deliberate on Opposition unity which will be held at Chhattisgarh’s Nava Raipur from February 24.

“We know our role very well. We don’t need to give a certificate to anyone to take the lead role. Because, any attempt towards Opposition unity will be unsuccessful without Congress,” said Ramesh.

He also accused certain opposition parties of siding with the BJP on critical issues. “Some parties were in agreement with us in demanding a JPC inquiry into the Adani issue. But, some of them demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe. That is a political move to save PM Modi from the crisis,” he added.
