Two BJP MLAs convicted on separate incidents; get different jail terms

Bengaluru, February 14: Two BJP MLAs – M.P. Kumaraswamy and Nehru Olekar – have been convicted in two separate incidents and given different sentences.
While Kumaraswamy has been given four year jail term in a cheque bounce case, Nehru Olekar has been given two years jail term on the charges of nepotism.
The orders of conviction and sentence have been given by the Judge of the People’s Representative Court in city.

Kumaraswamy had taken a loan from one Hoovappa Gowda. Rs 1.38 crore was pending from the MLA. Kumaraswamy had given two cheques which had bounced.
Nehru Olekar is accused of nepotism after he wrote two letters to the Deputy Commissioner asking for tender contracts to two of his sons under the Local Area Development Scheme.

One Shashidhar Mahadevappa of Haveri had filed a complaint against Nehru Olekar.
After the trial, the People’s Representative Court found all the accused persons – Nehru Olekar, his two sons, Manjunath and Devaraj, and two officials (since retired) K.H. Rudrappa and K.H. Kalappa to two years simple imprisonment and imposed Rs 2000 fine.
