Bengaluru, February 11: Former Congress MLC and party spokesman Ramesh Babu has urged BJP leader B. S. Yediyurappa to recommend the name of Shanthaveri Gopala Gowda for Shimoga airport.
“I compliment you for declining the permission to name the airport after you. This is a states manly attitude you have shown. My respects for you has gone up several notches,” Ramesh Babu has stated in his letter written to both Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Yediyurappa.
It may be recalled that Bommai had written a letter to Centre to name Shimoga airport after Yediyurappa.
However, Yediyurappa has stoutly refused the proposal. He had also written to both Bommai and Prime Minister not to accept state government’s proposal.
“I am too small and an ordinary person. Kindly spare me from the embarrassment. Do not consider the proposal,” Yediyurappa had stated in his letter.
Stating that Shanthaveri Gopala Gowda had toiled hard for more than five decades for the cause of farmers, agricultural labourers and downtrodden, Ramesh Babu has said that the revolutionary concept of ‘land to the tiller’ was successfully implemented in Shimoga only because of Shanthaveri Gopala Gopala gowda’s efforts and relentless campaign.
“Gopala Gowda Shanthaveri moulded hundreds of fighters such as Kagodu Thimmappa, J. H. Patel, S. Bangarappa, Konandur Lingappa, Ramesh Babu said “In a way, Shanthaveri was not just an individual but an institutional builder. He rightly and richly deservsz to be recognized.”
Apart from being the champion of farmers Yet another reason why the airport should be named after Shanthaveri Gopala Gowda is that br he has proved himself to be a mass leader of very high stature.
“Shanthaveri Gopala Gowda had commanded love, affection and respect from leaders cutting across political parties. So, it is in the fitness of things that the airport should be named after that great mass leader” Ramesh Babu signed off.
