Ahmedabad, February 8: Hundreds of civil administration officials who had earlier taken part in the restoration and rebuilding of Kutch region of Gujarat will be despatched to Turkey to assist the local authorities in restoration and rebuilding of the lives and cities devastated by killer earth quakes.
“Bhuj and other cities in the Kutch region of Gujarat saw worst kind of devastation due to serial earth-quakes in 2002. We have knowledge and experience of handling such situations. We are planning to send those officials to Turkey,” a senior officer in the Gujarat government told The Newz Peg.
Already NDRF personnel have reached Turkey in C-17 huge aircraft with rescue and relief materials. While NDRF will rescue and rehabilitate people, equally important task is to rebuild the cities and lives of the people who have survived the killer earth quake.
“Life has to go on. Normalcy needs to be restored. Peace must prevail. Chaos, fear, uncertainty and apprehension should pave the way for normalcy. For that to happen, cities and lives must be rebuilt. The proposed team will assist the local Turkey administration in restoring normalcy,” an official explained.
Water supply, electricity, supply of groceries, milk, vegetables must be restored. Roads must be cleared off the debris. Religious places must be restored.
“These are humongous tasks. But we achieved it in record time in Bhuj and other places. All that we need is meticulous planning and an action plan,” sources explained.
The Government of India is obtaining the damages caused to the cities in order to pack its team in terms of the need.
“Electrical engineers, plumbers, masonry, urban experts will be part of the restoration efforts,” according to officials.
After receiving the feedback from the NDRF about the clearance in rescue efforts the Centre will despatch this restoration and rebuilding team, which is likely to happen shortly.
