Bengaluru, February 8: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said that he will write to the Union Civil Aviation Minister to name the Shivamogga airport after former Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters here, Bommai said it is in the fitness of things that the airport gets the name of Yediyurappa for his phenomenal contribution towards growth and development both in Shivamoggava in particular as well as the entire state in general.
“Yediyurappa started his public service as RSS swayamsevak. Then he transformed himself into a political activist. Later he fought against the atrocities against downtrodden and weaker section of society. His struggle for the cause of farmers is simply unparallel,” Bommai explained.

Justifying the state government’s decision to name the upcoming airport after Yediyirappa, Bommai said BSY is a household name. He proved to be a stormy petral of Karnataka politics. Later he became a harbinger of developmental revolution. “So, it is in fitness of things that the Yediyurappa’s name is kept to the airport,” the chief minister asserted.

He said the cabinet has already taken a decision to recommend to the Centre to name Shivamogga airport after Yediyurappa.
“The formality of writing a formal letter is pending. I will write the letter in a day or two,” the chief minister added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the airport at Shivamogga on 27th February.
