New Delhi, February 1: There is a Karnataka angle to the budget presentation. No, it is not about the funds provided to Karnataka for various projects; that is a matter of debate between the ruling party and the Opposition.
Nirmala Sitharaman chose to wear Karnataka’s iconic Ilkal saree when she presented the budget in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahalad Joshi volunteered to get a saree to ‘Nirmala didi’ – as she is fondly called by many – in Delhi.
When she agreed, Joshi asked one of the Ilkal saree merchant to get a saree ready.

“Nirmala gave her choice of colour and the pattern. It was to be a mix of light red with orange shade and butta. She looked very graceful and dignified in that saree,” BJP State Secretary Bharathi Magdum told The Newz Peg.
Bharathi Magdum – who has interacted with Nirmala many a times – says the Union Finance Minister prefers cotton sarees always.
“She is very simple, modest, humble, down-to-earth and pragmatic. Once, she was decided to walk down along the Millers Road to eat Masala Dosa at Hotel Chandrika on Cunningham Road,” Bharathi recalled.
“However, whenever she has to meet foreign dignitaries including world bank officials, Nirmala didi prefers to wear Kanchipuram silk sarees,” Bharathi Magdum added.
