Bengaluru, January, 30: The state government employees can soon buy essential commodities and groceries at discounts ranging from 10 to 60 percent at family marts soon to be set up.
This initiative has been taken up by the Karnataka State Government Employees Association in all districts of the state.

The proposed mart will be similar to the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) also known as Military Canteens for soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families.
Quality products for daily use including groceries and electronic goods will be available at heavily discounted rates at the proposed marts.
There are about 5.20 lakh state government employees spread across 72 departments. According to the plan, this mart facility will be extended to retired employees and their families also. KSGEA President C. S. Shadakshari said the first such mart will be opened in Shimiga.

The KSGEA has organized a state-level convention at Shimoga on February 4. The first mart will inaugurated on that occasion.
The marts will be set up on government lands and it will be run by a private agency. While each district will have one mart, Bengaluru, however, will need four such marts.
