Belagavi, January, 29: Wing Commander Hanumanth Sarathi, who died in the IAF air crash near Gwalior air base in Madhya Pradesh, hailed from Belagavi.
Hanumanth Sarathi was considered as the finest pilot of his squadron who led the Rafale fleet that came to India from France.
A student of Kendraiya Vidyalaya at Belagavi, Hanumanth Sarathi joined the National Defence Academy soon after clearing his 12th class examination.
Hanumanth Sarathi belongs to the family of Army and Air Force officers. His father served in the Army and retired as Honorary Captain, Hanumanth Sarathi’s elder brother Praveen Sarathi is serving as Group Captain in the Indian Air Force (IAF). Praveen’s wife also serve in the IAF.
Hanumanth Sarathi was commissioned as Flying Officer in 2009. He was based in Gwalior and lived with his wife and children. Hanumanth Sarathi’s parents stay in Belagavi.
The officers from the Airmen Training Centre and Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) at Belagavi visited the residence of Hanumanth Sarathi and consoled his parents.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Hanumanth Sarathi will be brought to Belagavi by special IAF aircraft on Sunday.

The funeral will be held in Benakanahalli near Ganeshpur in Belagavi with full military honours, said Nitish Patil, DC of Belagavi district.
Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, who will be in Belagavi for the BJP Raitha Morcha national executive meeting, is likely to take part in the funeral of braveheart Hanumanth Sarathi.
