Bengaluru, January 25: Eight from Karnataka who have excelled in different fields have been selected for Padma Awards this year.
While former Chief Minister S. M. Krishna (Padma Vibhushan) has been selected for Public Administration, S. L. Bhyrappa (Padma Bhushan) is selected for Kannada literature.
At the same time, Sudha Murthy (Padma Bhushan) is chosen for Social Service while Munivenkatappa (Padma Sri) is chosen for Arts and Rani Machaiah (Padma Sri) for promoting Arts.

Khader Valli Dadekula (Padma Sri) has been selected for Science and Engineering and Shah Rasheed Ahmed Quadri (Padma Sri) is chosen for his contribution in the field of Arts.
S. Subbaraman (Padma Sri) is selected for his contribution in the field of Archeological Chemist who is with the Archeological Survey of India. He is instrumental in restoring the murals at Halebid and Ajanta.
While Bhyrappa is a prolific writer whose novels are much sought-after, Shah Rasheed hails from Bidar and is involved in promoting Bidari culture.

Rani Machaiah, a resident of Hill Road in Madikeri, is promoting Kodava Umathat dance. She also promotes different forms of Kodava dance including Kodava kolata.
Rani Machaiah’s relentless struggle and campaign led to the establishment of Kodava Sahitya Academy.
Munivenkatappa promotes the Thamate arts, a percussion instrument with its unique rustic and captivating sound. He is native of Sidlaghatta in Chikkaballapur district.
