Bengaluru, January 26: The helicopter manufacturing unit of the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) at Bidarehallikaval in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district will be inaugurated on February 6.
The Gubbi Helicopter Unit will have infrastructure for production, testing and manufacturing of wide-range of helicopters of 3-ton to 12-ton class. The facility is spread over 615 acres of land allotted by the Karnataka government.
Initially, the Gubbi unit will have Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) facility and as days goes heavy-duty helicopters will be manufactured in phases.

LUH is a three-ton helicopter being developed by HAL to meet the requirements of both military as well as civil establishments.
HAL’s Cheetah, Rudra, Dhruv, Chetak, Cheetal and Lancer model of Helicopters are being manufactured in its Bangalore division.

HAL has been mandated to produce 600 helicopters in 15 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Gubbi unit in 2016.
The Gubbi Helicopter Unit is expected to benefit about 4000 families, directly and indirectly from the investment of Rs 5000 crores.

The authorities are making efforts to get Narendra Modi for the inauguration of the Gubbi complex for which he had laid the foundation stone in 2016.
