Bengaluru, January 24: The Cooperative sector must give the much-needed thrust and focus to enable the rural entrepreneurs to grow as banks have their own limitations to provide capital, Swamy Vigna Nanda, Global Chairman and founder of the World Economic Forum, said here on Tuesday.
Swamy Vignananda inaugurated a new branc of the Karnataka Dharmadhrushti Souharda Credit Cooperative Society and delivered the keynote address. Mysore – Kodagu MP Prathap Simha was the chief guest on the occasion. Former Independent Director of Infosys and founder of Surya Software System Private Ltd D. N. Prahallad presided over the function.

In his keynote address, Swamy Vignananda emphasized that the society must learn to respect those who create wealth out of bonafide and fair means. “In fact, there used to be a practice in our society since time immemorial to call the traders with respectful title such as Shreshti, Chetty, Seth ji etc, etc. However, today those who create wealth are dubbed as looters,” the Swamy lamented.
According to Swamy Vignananda, banks will not be able to provide all the funds and capital required for business purpose. In this circumstances, the Cooperative sector must come forward and encourage the rural entrepreneurs.
Prathap Simha said he was confident that the Dharma Dhrushti Credit Cooperative Society will turn out to become a most credible launching pad for young entrepreneurs and encourage them to grow as well as develop as industrialists and businessmen in future. “I think that instead of investing on materials, we need to invest on merit, talent and quality,” Prathap Simha opined.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharana Gouda G Patil, Managing Director said that culture is most important to work in the Cooperative sector. This sector has been rightly called as a movement. Cooperative movement is always like a flowing river. “There are 5700 Souharda Cooperative Societies in Karnataka. With this today’s inauguration, the number has become 5701. The vision of the Swamy ji is very noble,” he added.
Dr B. S. Vishwa Cariappa, President of Karnataka Dharmadhrushti Souharda Cooperative society, in his address, said, “This society is the dream of Swamy Vignananda ji. Every one of us will work to translate the dream of the Swamy ji into reality. Towards that end, the Swamy ji’s encouragement and push are important. This child (society) is born in 2023. Our desire is to make it big and great in the next coming years,” he said.
