Delhi Commission for women becomes a victim of road rage: harassment

New Delhi, January 20: In a shocking incident, Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, was dragged for about 20-metres by a driver of a car in an inebriated condition at the wee hours.
Swati was going on an surprise inspection at AIIMS in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. When she was walking along the parking lot the driver of a car asked her to sit next to him.
When Swati refused, he held her hand and passed lewd remarks.

“I protested and stretched my hand to pull him out of the driver’s seat. But he closed the window and drove off. My hand got stuck and I was dragged for about 15 to 20 meters,” Swato told the police in her complaint.
The man had parked his car next to Swati. When she came to take her car, the man asked her to sit next to him in his car. “He also made some gestures that was vulgar,” Swati said in her complaint.

DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary told reporters that the control room received a call at 3.10 AM that a lady is being dragged by a car. “We rushed to the spot and apprehended the culprit driver. A case has been registered against the driver,” he added.
Swati Maliwal said the man who passed lewd and vulgar remarks is identified as Harish Chandra, a resident of Sangam Vihar. The incident happened at Gate Number 2 of AIIMS.
