New Delhi, January 12: India will focus on the “substance not the symbolism” of the outcomes at the G – 20 summit,. Chief Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla said here on Wednesday.
“I don’t think symbolism matters”, Shringla former foreign secretary said while speaking at the Indo – American friendship association.
He was replying to a question whether it is difficult to organize a joint photo shoot of all G – 20 members.
In a possible indication that Russian President Vladimir Putin may skip the September G – 20 summit, officials separately said that their President would visit India for Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit which is tentatively scheduled for June.

Shringla further said, “What is important is that as a group, we strive towards achieving solutions that are much needed in the world today rather than symbolisms”
Ahead of the virtual ‘Global South Summit’ that will be hosted by India on Thursday and Friday, Shringla said the Ukraine conflict had left the developing world with mounting debts, lower revenues and higher import Bill’s that would be the important subject on the agenda of the conference bring organized as part of India’s G – 20 Presidency.
“Many of the developing countries today are facing the impact of higher import Bill’s of food and fuel. At the same time, they are seeing lower revenues from decreasing international demand for goods and services as well as lower remittances for many developing countries that rely on remittances, tourism and so on for their income,” Shringla explained.
