Kolar, Dec 30: The 25-acre elephant care camp set up at Lakshmisagar Reserve Forest in Kolar district will be thrown open to public shortly.
Elephants are treated for diabetes, obesity and other injuries at this exclusive elephant care camp. As of now there are four elephants undergoing treatment for various elephants.

“Diabetes and obesity are common in the elephants that belong to temples and other ashrams. That’s because they do not have proper exercise. Right type of food is also a problem. We will get those elephants here for treatment,” forest officials said.
The Lakshmisagar Forest Reserve camp for elephants has enough space for recreation, shower, long walk, treatment and food. This camp has both open and closed enclosures to protect the elephants from sun and rain.

The purpose and the idea of opening up the camp for public is to make the people understand and realize the pain and agony these elephants undergo and how they are being treated.
“Elephants are not just means of entertainment. They too have sentiments and emotions. People must empathize with these animals at times of pain and agony. We will make arrangements for the people to feed the elephants but the food will be chosen by us,” officials said.
