Bengaluru, Nov 9: KPCC Working President and Yamakanamaradi MLA MLA Satish Jarakiholi has wrote a letter to CM Bommai, apologising for his remarks over ‘Hindu’ word.
“My statement has been misinterpreted by several people. An organised campaign is being run against me. I will apologise if my words have hurt anyone. But, my words were based on the content that is available on internet and in the books,” the letter quoted.
While speaking at a program in Belagavi district organised by ‘Manav Bandhutva Vedike’ on Sunday, Jarkiholi said that if you come to know the meaning of the word Hindu, you will be ashamed. He also said that ‘a word and a religion from elsewhere is being forcefully imposed on people here’.
Previously today, strongly condemning the statement of KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi about ‘Hindu’ word, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders hit the streets in Bengaluru on Wednesday demanding apology and expulsion of Satish Jarakiholi from Congress over his statement.

The remark by Jarkiholi, who also served as state minister in previous Janata Dal Secular-Congress government, stirred a big row with the BJP terming it as an attempt to lure minority voters. A day after his remarks over Hindus, Jarkiholi asserts that he would resign as MLA if proved wrong but wouldn’t apologize for his statement. “Let everyone prove I’m wrong. If I am wrong, I’ll resign as MLA and not just apologise for my statement,” media reports quoting Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi.
Due to this The BJP on Wednesday held protests across Karnataka, including Bengaluru, condemning state Congress Working President Satish Jarkiholi for his controversial statement that the word ‘Hindu’ is Persian and it has a “dirty” meaning.
The saffron party is also targeting the Congress on the issue, calling it “anti-Hindu”, and has also demanded for his sacking by the opposition party.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai questioned Congress leader Siddaramaiah for being silent on the issue and demanded his comments on the row. Former CM B S Yediyurappa said Jarkiholi must issue an apology and if not, “people will teach a lesson”.

At Mysuru Bank circle in Bengaluru, BJP workers staged a demonstration waving saffron flags and shouting slogans “Navella Hindu, Navella Ondu ” (We are all Hindus and are united). They burnt an effigy of Jarkiholi.
Similar protests by burning the Congress leader’s effigy was held in Jarkiholi’s home district of Belagavi.
There are reports of protests from various parts of the state including Chamarajanagar, Tumakuru, Karwar, Yadgir, Raichur, Shivamogga, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Kolar, Bagalkote among other places.
