Bengaluru, August 02: City’s big 3 govt agencies BDA, BBMP and BWSSB has cumulatively shown their utter failure in the rejuvenation project of Hosakerehalli lake.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had embarked on rejuvenation of the 59-acre Hosakerehalli lake in 2015. It was to hand over the rejuvenated lake to BBMP in late 2019. Though the BBMP is in command of the lake it has precious little to save the lake.
We are into the eighth month of 2022, but the lake is still an expansive sewage pond. Yes, it is.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) was to execute a pipeline project to divert sewage water. But it hasn’t. All three government agencies – BDA, BBMP, BWSSB – have comprehensively failed to complete the project.
Of the Rs. 9.4 crore allocated for reviving the lake in Banashankari Third Stage, the BDA had spent 1.8 crore on desilting and creating three bird islands.

Thanks to a generous South-West monsoon, the lake sprung to life in August 2018. The water bristled under the sun bringing cheer to people in the vicinity. But their joy was short-lived as sewage started to gush in from residential areas.
Seven years (2105-2022) after work being undertaken to rejuvenate the lake, minister for horticulture, Mr. Munirathna Naidu has sought Rs. 50 crore from the government to complete the aborted project.

The work has to start from scratch. Desilting can begin only after the monsoon showers cease. Also, sewage from residential areas has to be completely diverted to tertiary plants in Mylsandra, near Kengeri before re-embarking on the failed project.

For a start, Mr. Munirathna has to advice BBMP to keep a watch on people dumping garbage, building debris into the lake.Currently, the ailing Hosakerehalli lake is a stinking mess.
