Agneepath protest; Passenger train set ablaze in Bihar

New Delhi: protest against Agnipath continued on the third day against the new military scheme even as the Central government on Thursday extended the upper age limit for the Agnipath recruitment scheme from 21 years to 23 years. Trains were set afire, and public and police vehicles were attacked in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for the third consecutive day today.
Protesters snatched the mobile phones of the passengers and carried out arson on the railway track by looting the belongings of the passengers and evacuating the train. The aspirants are presently protesting on the railway track in Buxar and they have blocked both the up ad down lines of Dumraon railway station. Many trains were delayed due to the blockage of the Delhi-Kolkata rail main road. Students sat on the railway track and raised slogans against the central government’s Agnipath scheme from early morning at 5.
According to reports, the coaches of the Jammu Tawi Express train were set on fire at Mohiuddinagar station of the Hajipur-Barauni railway line.
Another train was set ablaze at Luckeesarai Junction in the state. “They were stopping me from shooting a video and even snatched away my phone. Four to five compartments have been affected,” Police told ANI, adding that passengers managed to proceed on their own.

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia, a crowd gathered at the Railway Station tried to pelt stones but the police dispersed them. Soon after, some students attempted to break a window pane and set fire to an empty isolated train, SP RK Nayyar told to media.

Yesterday, trains were set ablaze and blocked. Public vehicles were attacked as protests over ‘Agnipath’ swept across several places in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana on Thursday amid partisan political voices in favor and against the new recruitment scheme for the defense forces that have set off a firestorm.
