Bengaluru, Jan. 28: Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa”s granddaughter, Dr. Soundarya, was found hanging at her residence in High Grounds police station limits in Bengaluru, on Friday morning. The police are investigating to know the reason for the suicide.
Dr. Soundarya, who was working as Assistant Professor of Surgery in Bowring Hospital, was married to Dr. Niraj, a radiologist at a private hospital in Bengaluru, in 2018. The couple has an eight-month-old child.
Police sources said, Dr. Soundarya, aged around 35 years, was loving in an apartment on Vasantnagar. Her husband had left to work at around 8 am. When domestic help came for work at around 9.30 am, Dr. Soundarya didn’t open the door and her husband was informed about the same.

“The door was opened with the help of neighbours to find Dr. Soundarya hanging from a ceiling fan in a room leaving the child in another room. She was brought down and rushed to a private hospital, where efforts were made for about 30 minutes to save her before the doctors declared her dead,” a source said.

The body was shifted to Bowring Hospital, where a postmortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members. Soon after knowing about the incident, senior leaders of the BJP rushed to Yediyurappa’s residence.

Though the exact reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained, the police have suspected that domestic matters or postpartum depression might have led her to take the extreme step. Further investigations are on.
