Bengaluru, Jan. 11: Rapping the state government for not taking steps to stop the padayatra being held by the KPCC amidst the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, the Karnataka High Court has asked the government to inform what action has been taken to stop the rally or why it is being allowed.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking direction to the state government and Ramanagara DC not to permit any rally, a divisional bench of the HC, on Wednesday, asked the state government to inform the court as to how or why rallies, particularly the rally being held by the KPCC, are being allowed to continue and why no action has been taken to stop the same.
At the same time, the court has also asked the KPCC to inform whether they have permission from authorities to hold the rally and whether they are following the SOPs issued by the government as per the laid down by the government to contain further spread of COVID-19.
Submitting that the state government had already issued orders banning rallies and dharnas, the Additional Advocate General informed the court that even the Ramanagara DC has issued notice to the KPCC on January 5, informing them no permission has been granted to hold the rally.
