Bengaluru, Jan. 10: Karnataka has initiated the drive to provide precautionary (booster) doses for healthcare workers, frontline workers, and senior citizens with co-morbidities to fight against COVID-19. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai launched the drive in Bengaluru on Monday.

The state has a target to innoculate six lakh healthcare workers, seven lakh frontline workers, and eight lakh people above 60 years with comorbidities with the precautionary dose to boost immunity and ensure better resistance against the virus. Speaking after launching the drive, CM Bommai said the government is committed to making Karnataka a safe zone from the virus.

“We have achieved 99% success in vaccination and it will be 100% by the end of January. With the second dose, 77% progress is achieved and it will be intensified in February.

By inoculating the population, I am confident of making Karnataka a safe zone from the pandemic,” Bommai said.

Meanwhile, Minister for Health & Medical Education Dr. Sudhakar K has said 50% first dose vaccination for children in the age group of 15-17 years is completed. “15.60 lakh of the 31.75 lakh children in this age group are administered with the first dose in the state,” he added.
