Housemaid working at Bengaluru cop’s house picked up on theft charges

Bengaluru, Dec. 8: The Bengaluru city police reportedly picked up a 20-year-old house maid who was working at the residence of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), B. R. Ravikanthe Gowda on Tuesday late night in connection with a house theft case, a senior police official said here on Wednesday.

According to the police, the accused is identified as Ankita, who had fled from Bengaluru after allegedly committing theft at the residence of Mr Gowda.

Based on a complaint was registered on Sunday by the IPS officer’s driver, Assistant Head Constable Jagadeesh, at the Sanjay Nagar police station, the police has picked her up from her native in Haveri district and enquiring her to know reasons behind the theft. “At present we are enquiring and will arrest her once due formalities are followed,” the police officer said.

According to this complaint, the accused had fled with valuables such as three watches, three pairs of gold rings, one mobile phone and Rs 32,000 cash.

Mr Jagadish mentioned in his complaint that Mr Gowda resides in the Dollars Colony of Sanjay Nagar in Bengaluru. “The theft had occurred in the absence of Mr Gowda and his family members. Mr Gowda had left the city for his official work, while his wife, Shobha and his two children had been to their home town whereas his other daughter was at home along with the maid,” explained the complaint.

“At around 6.15 pm on Sunday, Mr Gowda’s daughter went to her friend’s place and returned at 9.15 pm to find the house locked. The maid did not open the door. After searching the vicinity, the house key was obtained from near a flower pot,” Mr Jagadeesh said in his complaint.

The driver further said that he was accompanying Mr Gowda’s daughter when she opened the house door and the maid had been working at Mr Gowda’s residence for the past three years.

The police has registered a case and is investigating.
